Jana McCarthy - LFI Teacher (One Year)

Jana grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Boston to attend Emerson College, where she majored in performing arts and minored in Latin American fiction before earning a Masters degree at Boston University. In addition to teaching, she served first-generation college students at Northeastern University as the Director of Opportunity Scholarships and Outreach Programs, researched and presented nationally on college access initiatives, worked with BPS central office to support college and career readiness, and led curriculum and instruction at West Roxbury Academy. She loves learning alongside her students and has conducted classroom-based research on the importance of building students’ stamina through writing as a UMass Boston Calderwood Fellow.
