Career Technology Education Program
in Environmental Science (CTE)
The Career and Technical Pathway in Environmental Science is a 4-year high school program leading to college and to jobs in the sustainability sector.
Ninth grade
-
Discover the Earth’s natural systems: geology, meteorology, oceanography, and astronomy
-
Learn the process of discovery scientific inquiry, observation, and data interpretation
-
Investigate Earth’s materials, plate tectonics, weather/climate, and the solar system
-
Connect earth science concepts to local and global environmental issues
-
Be prepared for further study in environmental or physical sciences

In class work includes hands-on labs, modeling, and mapping (GIS) skills
Tenth Grade

Begin earning HAZWOPER certification (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response)

Grow Food for the community and manage a business

With your CTE Classmates, you will run a Container Farm that uses hydroponics to grow up to 3,000 lbs. of fresh greens and you will run the school’s Farm Stand!
Eleventh grade

Explore how cities can grow in smarter, greener, and more equitable ways.

Collaborate in small “design firms”

Design walkable neighborhoods, public transit, green space, and

local food systems.

Consider how design choices affect climate, health, and community

Use professional tools like SketchUp and ArcGIS StoryMaps to build and present your ideas
Senior year

Develop skills in spatial data analysis, map design, remote sensing imagery interpretation, and digital mapping.

Explore ecological and climatic data sets, examining how natural systems vary over space and time.

Analyze spatial datasets to understand climate impacts, habitat loss, and vulnerability to natural hazards.

Use spatial storytelling, data dashboards, and maps to present environmental issues to a broader audience.

Prepare for your final graduation requirement by taking Senior Seminar and choosing your internship site

With all BGA seniors, spend the last five weeks of your BGA Career getting hands-on, practical experience in a career field of your choice while getting paid
