What is Boston Green Academy?
Founded in 20ll, Boston Green Academy (BGA) is an in-district Horace Mann charter school that educates and empowers students of all abilities to succeed in college and career and prepares them to lead in the sustainability of our community and world. Our diverse student population represents neighborhoods from across the City of Boston, including Mattapan, East Boston, Dorchester, and Roxbury. 82% percent of our students are living at or below the federal poverty line, while 32% percent of our students have diagnosed disabilities, and 12% are English-language learners
BGA is part of the Boston Public Schools (BPS) and has increased autonomy and accountability for accelerating student achievement. Through curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, interdisciplinary projects, and student internships, BGA provides our students with opportunities to learn about environmental sustainability and green careers. Over the last five years, we have seen significant gains in academic achievement and have a renewed commitment to school amongst our student. Since we opened our doors, our graduation rate has increased from 55% to over 80%; our dropout rate has decreased from 12% to 2.9%. Our student graduation and dropout remains better than the City of Boston average. We are proud of our progress and excited to continue to strengthen our work on behalf of students and families.
