Welcome to BGA! Below you will find helpful information for new and existing students.

Congratulations to all students and their families who were accepted to join us for the 2017-2018 school year. We are excited to welcome you into the BGA family.

6th, 7th & 8th Grade FAQ (skip to below for high school)

What time do I have to go to school?

8:00am-3:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 8:00am-12:00pm Wednesday

When is the first day of school?

Thursday, September 7th

Are there uniforms?

Yes! All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are required to wear a uniform*.

The required 6th grade uniform consists of:

  • BGA Polo Shirt (Blue for 6th and 7th grade; Black for 8th)
  • Khaki pants are strongly recommended, but are not required
  • Green Pride Sweatshirt (to be worn when appropriate)

Polo shirts and sweatshirts are available for purchase at L&M Bargain Stores:

*If a student is unable to meet the dress code obligations, we will have a conversation with the family. Students who continue to struggle to meet the dress code after a family conversation will be required to perform community service. If families have financial challenges with the policy, please contact the student’s advisor.

How do I get to Boston Green Academy?

All 6th graders: Corner-to-corner transportation on yellow school buses will be provided by Boston Public Schools to and from school each day. Please visit their website here for more information. Yellow bus assignments will be mailed by BPS to families before school starts. You must be officially registered with the BPS in order to receive transportation.

 

7th and 8th graders: Students whose Special Education IEPs call for transportation will be assigned yellow bus service by BPS (see above). All other 7th and 8th graders will receive an MBTA pass (good for 7 days from September to June) on the first day of school. Families must arrange transportation to BGA on the morning of the first day. School starts at 8am. Public transportation options are listed at the end of this document.

Do I need to bring my own lunch?

No, Boston Public Schools provides breakfast and lunch to all our students free of charge. If you would prefer to bring your own, you may do so, but there is no refrigerator for students. A microwave is available.

  • 3 composition books (marble black and white covers)

High School FAQ

Do I need to bring my own lunch?

No, Boston Public Schools provides breakfast and lunch to all our students free of charge. If you would prefer to bring your own, you may do so, but there is no refrigerator for students. A microwave is available.

Are there uniforms?

No. Our high school students have freedom to express themselves in an appropriate manner. However, there is a dress code that requires students to dress appropriately (see Student Handbook, which will be shared on the first day of school, for details; the Student Handbook will also be available online once school starts).

  • 2 packets of 3-4 section dividers
  • 1 Three ring pencil pouch
  • 2 One-subject construction notebooks
  • 1 Two pocket homework folder
  • 1 Calculator
  • 1 Spanish/English dictionary
  • 1 Box of colored pencils

Orientation:

Orientation took place earlier in the spring. Students and families who have enrolled since then are encouraged to attend BGA Back to School Night on Weds., September 27th at 6pm.

Summer Reading:

All students are required to complete a summer reading assignment for The Little Prince. Please click here for more information.

Public Transportation to BGA:

BPS Shuttle: A BPS Yellow Shuttle Bus from Andrew Station: Pick-up time is at 6:50am. There is ONE shuttle only; if it is full, or you miss it, please find alternative transportation.

 

The 532 from Ashmont Station: Pick-up time is 6:35 am, scheduled arrival time to the school is at 7:15 am. There is ONE shuttle only; if it is full, or you miss it, please find alternative transportation.

 

Public Train: B Train on the Green Line: take the train to the Warren Street stop, take right onto Cambridge Street. BGA will be up the street on your right.

 

Public Bus:

57 bus from Kenmore to the Dustin Street stop which is directly in front of the school

 

66 bus from Dudley to Brighton Ave, then take the 57, which stops at the entrance on Cambridge Street

 

501 Bus from the corner of Franklin and Federal Street: 501 is a commuter bus. It only runs in the morning (6am-9am) and evenings (3:30pm-7:30pm). This bus takes the Mass Pike and takes approx 22 minutes from Downtown Crossing to Brighton.

 

For Parents: parking spots are limited in the BGA parking lot. On-street parking is readily available surrounding the building.
